A 12-year-old girl who survived the deadly Ofankor Barrier road crash is facing a long road to recovery after losing both legs in the devastating collision.

The survivor, identified in multiple reports as Angelina Naa Adorkor, was among those caught in the multi-vehicle crash along the Ofankor Barrier stretch of the Accra–Kumasi Highway on August 13, 2026.

According to reports, Angelina had been travelling with her ailing father to the morgue, where the body of her recently deceased mother was being kept, when tragedy struck.

Her father was killed in the crash.

Angelina sustained severe injuries that resulted in the amputation of both legs below the knees. She also suffered serious injuries to both arms and required emergency surgery and blood transfusions at Ga East Municipal Hospital.

Doctors treating her said she arrived at the hospital in critical condition and required extensive medical attention because of the severity and contamination of her injuries.

She is also receiving psychological support as she comes to terms with the loss of her parents and the trauma of the crash.

Reports say she has repeatedly asked for her father without yet knowing that he died in the accident.

Family Appeals for Support

Angelina’s aunt, Sandra, has appealed to the government, corporate organisations and members of the public to help support the girl’s treatment, rehabilitation and eventual reintegration into school and society.

The Ofankor Crash

The August 13 crash was one of the deadliest road crashes reported in the Greater Accra Region this year.

The Ghana Police Hospital confirmed 12 deaths, while the National Road Safety Authority reported that 22 people were injured.

The collision involved two tipper trucks, two Sprinter buses, two saloon cars and a tricycle.

The NRSA has been investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Preliminary information indicated that a broken-down tricycle may have contributed to a chain of vehicles stopping on the road before the subsequent collision, although investigations were ongoing.

The incident has renewed concerns about road safety along the Ofankor–Pokuase corridor, which authorities have identified as a crash-prone stretch.

For Angelina, however, the focus now is recovery.

At just 12 years old, she faces the challenge of rebuilding her life after losing both legs and both parents in a single devastating period.

Her family’s appeal is for support to help her receive the care, rehabilitation and assistance she needs to continue her education and rebuild her future.

President John Dramani Mahama has suggested that Christians in Ghana could contribute GH¢1,000 each towards the construction of a National Cathedral rather than relying on taxpayers’ money to finance the project.

Mahama made the remarks during a citizens’ engagement in Wa as part of his Resetting Ghana Tour.

Explaining his position on the controversial project, the President said he had no objection to Ghana having a National Cathedral but maintained that public funds should not be used to finance its construction.

“If we all pay 1,000 cedis each, we should be able to construct a national cathedral.”

He argued that Ghana’s Christian community has sufficient numbers to mobilise the resources required and suggested that Christian organisations outside Ghana could also contribute.

Not a Mandatory GH¢1,000 Payment

The President’s comment does not amount to an announcement of a GH¢1,000 government charge or mandatory contribution on Christians.

Rather, Mahama was presenting voluntary contributions as a possible alternative funding model for the National Cathedral.

His central argument was that taxpayers’ money should not be used to finance the project.

Mahama Says National Cathedral Was Not a National Policy

Mahama also explained why his administration has not treated the National Cathedral like other projects inherited from the previous government.

According to him, the National Cathedral was a personal pledge made by former President Nana Akufo-Addo to God, rather than a national policy that his administration was obligated to continue.

He nevertheless stressed that he was not against the construction of a National Cathedral.

Concerns Over the Location

The President renewed his concerns about the location of the proposed cathedral.

He pointed to the concentration of major public facilities in the area, including Parliament, the International Conference Centre, the Greater Accra Regional Hospital and the National Theatre.

Mahama argued that placing another major facility in the area could create congestion, particularly during major national events.

Demolished Properties Also Raise Concerns

Mahama further criticised the destruction of properties that occurred during preparations for the project.

He mentioned the demolition of 10 judges’ residences, the residence of the Malian Ambassador and the old passport office, among other properties.

The President questioned the extent of the destruction and said some of the affected properties had not been replaced.

Forensic Audit Completed

President Mahama also disclosed that a forensic audit of the National Cathedral project has been completed and is currently with the Attorney-General.

He said a copy would be made available to the Christian Council of Ghana so that it could examine how almost US$90 million associated with the project was spent and determine whether corrective action is necessary.

Christian Council Forms Technical Committee

The disclosure comes amid renewed discussions about the future of the stalled National Cathedral project.

The Christian Council of Ghana recently established a technical committee to examine possible funding arrangements, the location and other outstanding issues surrounding the project.

The committee has been given one month to make recommendations on the way forward.

What Happened to Dr Jesse Amuah and His Wife?

The Adabraka District Court has heard disturbing details surrounding the alleged killing of retired medical doctor Dr Jesse Amuah, 80, and his wife, Elizabeth Esi Amuah, 64, at their residence at Asylum Down in Accra.

The prosecution alleges that a disagreement over a payment of GH¢1,500 escalated into a violent confrontation that resulted in the deaths of the elderly couple.

The accused, 32-year-old Abraham Newton Awundok, worked with a private security company located opposite the couple’s residence and had also assisted them with household chores in exchange for payment.

The GH¢1,500 Payment Dispute

According to the prosecution’s account presented in court, the dispute began after Awundok demanded payment for work he had performed for the couple.

The court heard that on March 22, 2026, Awundok requested payment from Mrs Amuah after completing his chores. Instead of cash, she allegedly offered him toothpaste and deodorant, which he accepted, although he continued to demand the money.

The following day, March 23, Awundok reportedly returned to the residence and again demanded GH¢1,500.

The prosecution alleges that an argument followed. Awundok initially left but later returned and allegedly confronted Mrs Amuah again.

Prosecutors told the court that Awundok subsequently picked up a pestle and allegedly struck Mrs Amuah several times on the head.

Her screams reportedly attracted her husband, Dr Amuah, who went to intervene.

The prosecution alleges that Awundok then attacked Dr Amuah with a kitchen knife, a pestle and a piece of concrete.

Couple’s Bodies Allegedly Hidden in Septic Tank

The court further heard that after the alleged killings, Awundok fled the residence in the couple’s Nissan Sunny, carrying their mobile phones, money and other valuables.

Prosecutors allege that he returned to the house at about 10 p.m. on March 24 and concealed the bodies.

The bodies were reportedly wrapped in curtains and clothes, placed inside a Ghana Must Go bag and allegedly dumped in the property’s septic tank.

The prosecution further alleged that the accused concealed the clothes he had worn during the incident in the septic tank, sealed the tank with cement mortar and cleaned bloodstains from the scene.

Family Reported Couple Missing

After the family failed to hear from the couple for several weeks, the matter was reported to the police on April 30, 2026.

Police investigations subsequently led to the discovery of the bodies and clothing believed to be connected to the alleged incident inside the septic tank.

A post-mortem examination conducted on May 7 reportedly gave the cause of death as severe head injury and suspected assault.

Suspect Fled to Dubai

The prosecution told the court that Awundok allegedly fled Ghana for Dubai on April 22, 2026.

Police intelligence later led investigators to his location in Dubai, where he was arrested before being deported to Ghana.

He was brought back to Ghana on August 30, 2026, and subsequently faced court proceedings over the alleged killings.

Awundok Charged With Two Counts of Murder

Awundok has been charged with two counts of murder.

Because of the nature of the charges, his plea was not taken at the initial proceedings.

The Adabraka District Court has adjourned the case to September 21, 2026.

The Ghana Police Service has identified, arrested and interdicted General Corporal Robert Koranteng following investigations into the death of Central University law student Ivan Baidoo on the Tema Motorway.

Police said the Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is investigating the circumstances surrounding Baidoo’s death, while the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) is examining the conduct of the officer.

What Happened to Ivan Baidoo?

Ivan Baidoo died after a motorbike crash on the Tema Motorway on August 27, 2026.

According to a petition filed by his family, Baidoo was travelling as a pillion passenger on a YANGO-operated motorcycle when the incident occurred.

The motorcycle rider reportedly told investigators that a police officer riding another motorcycle pursued them from the UPSA-Legon area towards the Tema Motorway.

The rider alleged that the police officer eventually caught up with the motorcycle and struck it from behind, causing the rider and Baidoo to fall onto the road.

Baidoo suffered serious injuries and later died.

Police Officer Identified as Robert Koranteng

Following preliminary investigations and the circulation of video footage concerning the incident, the Ghana Police Service identified the officer as General Corporal Robert Koranteng.

The Police subsequently arrested and interdicted him in connection with the case.

According to the Police, Koranteng is currently in custody while investigations continue.

CID and Professional Standards Investigations Underway

The Ghana Police Service said its Homicide Unit of the CID is intensifying efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding Baidoo’s death.

At the same time, the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has been tasked with investigating the conduct of General Corporal Koranteng.

The two investigations are expected to determine what happened during the alleged pursuit and whether the officer’s conduct complied with Ghana Police Service professional standards and regulations.

Family Had Petitioned CID

Before the officer was identified and interdicted, Baidoo’s family had petitioned the CID for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The family raised questions concerning the exact circumstances of the crash, the identity of the police personnel allegedly involved, available road-camera footage and other unanswered issues surrounding the incident.

The family had also appealed to the public for information and announced a GH¢50,000 reward for credible information that could help establish what happened.

Age Discrepancy in Reports

There are conflicting reports regarding Baidoo’s age. Several reports following the latest Police statement describe him as 23 years old, while earlier reports based on the family’s petition described him as 20.

According to the police, operatives arrested the woman, identified in reports as Anulika Onyeanusia, in Onitsha on September 10, 2026.

The command said the investigation concerns allegations involving the sexual exploitation of a child and the production of inappropriate online material.

The Central North Regional Police Command has rescued 30-year-old Bismark Amoh, who was allegedly kidnapped at Assin Fosu in Ghana’s Central Region.

Amoh was reportedly abducted on Sunday, September 6, 2026, and was held captive for several days before police secured his rescue. He is currently receiving medical attention.

According to information gathered by the Ghana News Agency and reports from the police, the alleged kidnappers initially demanded GH¢45,000 from Amoh’s family and gave them a 24-hour deadline.

The family reportedly mobilised GH¢19,500, which was sent to the suspects. However, the payment allegedly did not result in Amoh’s release.

The suspects subsequently demanded an additional GH¢30,500, bringing the reported total ransom demand to GH¢49,500.

Disturbing recordings sent to family

The case drew urgent attention after the alleged kidnappers reportedly used Amoh’s own mobile phone to communicate with his family through WhatsApp.

Reports indicate that audio and video recordings sent to relatives showed Amoh restrained and subjected to physical abuse while pleading with his family to secure his release.
